Arab-Israeli Conflict: Main Dates and Events

Arab-Israeli Conflict: 1400BC - The conflict between Israel and Egypt went back thousands of years to biblical times. In 1400BC Israel and Judea occupied the Hebrew Kingdom in the Land of Canaan.

Arab-Israeli Conflict: 90AD - In 90AD the Romans forced the Jews of Israel to flee the Holy Land when the Romans captured Jerusalem and renamed the land Palestine.

Arab-Israeli Conflict: 621 - The Roman Empire collapsed and around the year 621, the Roman region of Palestine was conquered by Muslim armies who brought the religion of Islam to Palestine.

Arab-Israeli Conflict: 1517 - The Ottoman Turks controlled the Middle Eastern Empire from 1517-1918 when the Ottoman Empire was dissolved.

Arab-Israeli Conflict: 1918 - At the end of WW1 the British were given control of the region (1920 - 1948 and favored the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people.

Arab-Israeli Conflict: 1947 - The partition of Palestine occurred in 1947 with UN resolution 181 which established a Jewish State, an Arab State and the Internationalization of Jerusalem.

Arab-Israeli Conflict: 1948 - The State of Israel was established in 1948 sharing land borders with Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and the Palestinian territories (which are claimed by the State of Palestine and are partially controlled by Israel) comprising the West Bank and Gaza Strip to the east and west, and Egypt to the southwest. The Arabs rejected the UN resolution and major wars erupted between Israel and its neighbors, generally led by Egypt.

Arab-Israeli Conflict: 1948 - The 1948 Arab-Israeli War was a large-scale war between Israel and five Arab countries and the Palestinian-Arabs.

Arab-Israeli Conflict: 1956 - The 1956 Sinai Campaign and the Suez Crisis saw an invasion of Egypt by Israel.

Arab-Israeli Conflict: 1967 - The 1967 Six-Day War (5–10 June 1967) was fought between Israel and all of its neighboring countries of Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon, aided by other Arab countries.

Arab-Israeli Conflict: 1973 - The 1973 Yom Kippur War, or Arab–Israeli War, was fought by the coalition of Arab states led by Egypt and Syria (supported by USSR) against Israel (supported by USA) from October 6 to October 25, 1973. In the Yom Kippur War the Egyptian Army got back Sinai that had been occupied by the Israeli armies for almost 7 years.

Arab-Israeli Conflict: 1978 - The 1978 Camp David Accords included a condition of Israel's withdrawal from the rest of Sinai.

Arab-Israeli Conflict: 1979 - The Egypt–Israel Peace Treaty was signed on 26 March 1979.

Arab-Israeli Conflict: 1991 - The Madrid Conference (January-February 1991) in which the United States and the Soviet Union co-convened an international peace conference in Madrid, Spain

Arab-Israeli Conflict: 1993 - The Oslo Accords (1993 - 1994), a series of agreements between the government of Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO)

Arab-Israeli Conflict: 1994 - The Israel–Jordan peace treaty was signed on 26 October 1994 to "end to bloodshed and sorrow" and a just and lasting peace.

Arab-Israeli Conflict: 2015 - Israeli–Palestinian conflict, known as the "Wave of Terror" by Israelis or the "Knife Intifada" by the media and described as a potential Third Intifada. Conflict due to tensions between the Palestinians and Israelis regarding the status of the Temple Mount.
